Chairman of the Amman Chamber of Commerce, Khalil Haj Tawfiq, stressed the importance of working to increase the volume of investments between Jordan and Azerbaijan and enhance trade exchange between them, pointing to the strength of the friendly relations that bring together the two countries, at various levels and fields.

Haj Tawfiq, with the Azerbaijani Ambassador to the Kingdom, Eldar Salimov, in the presence of the Kingdom’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Omar Al-Nahar, discussed ways to strengthen economic relations between the Kingdom and Azerbaijan and exploit the possibilities to increase their trade exchanges.

He stressed the need to increase Azerbaijani investments in the Kingdom, especially since Jordan has an attractive and safe environment for investment, and that the Kingdom today has a new investment environment law that grants many advantages and incentives to investors, in addition to the vision of economic modernization.

The meeting, which was held at the Chamber’s premises, discussed the role that the Jordanian embassy in Azerbaijan can play in providing a database on investment opportunities in the Kingdom, as well as the Azerbaijani embassy in the Kingdom in terms of providing data on goods that can be imported, especially food and basic materials, and those that can be exported, and the needs of the Azerbaijani market for goods and services.

Salimov pointed out the need to discuss the prospects for cooperation in the tourism sector and ways to benefit from exchanging the experiences of the two countries in the field of tourism promotion and attracting more Azerbaijani tourists to Jordan, which enjoys the various types of tourism, especially religious ones.

Regarding economic cooperation, the Ambassador explained that the two countries have good opportunities to pursue mutual cooperation towards a promising future, and there is a good legal basis and framework, in addition to the activity of the joint governmental committee whose meeting is scheduled to be held in the capital, Baku, during the current year 2024.

For his part, Ambassador Al-Nahar stressed that the private sector is the backbone of the national economy, stressing his readiness to fully cooperate with the Amman Chamber of Commerce and chambers of commerce to provide services that would facilitate business between Jordan and Azerbaijan.

Al-Nahar pointed out that there are some logistical obstacles in terms of increasing trade exchange between the two countries, the most important of which is the cost of transportation and the lack of low-cost direct sea transport lines between the two countries, pointing out that the Azerbaijani airline will operate three direct flights a week between the two countries, which will contribute to mutually increase tourist visits between the two countries.

He pointed out the possibility of operating flights from Baku directly to Aqaba, and this flight may be an option for importers and exporters to increase the volume of trade exchange, especially in the field of pharmaceutical industries.
